What if we had MIND CONTROL in addition to Wiimotes?
March 22, 2008 on 6:11 am | In News | 1 CommentIn an adapted version of the Harry Potter video game, players lift boulders and throw lightning bolts using only their minds. Just as physical movement changed the interface of gaming with Nintendo’s Wii, the power of the mind may be the next big thing in video games.
And it may come soon. Emotiv, a company based in San Francisco, says its mind-control headsets will be on shelves later this year, along with a host of novel “biofeedback” games developed by its partners.

March 15, 2008 on 7:36 am | In News | No CommentsIn the “old” days, your grandma would buy you games to play. Now, you can give one to your grandmother. The Wii has become THE electronic game console for seniors.
Read this article… and this one.
How about donating a Wii to a senior center near you?
Do you have to get up early in the morning …
March 7, 2008 on 3:34 pm | In News | No Comments… to go Sega Bass Fishing?
The game is pretty simple in the way that it controls, as you throw out your line by whipping the Wii Remote forward. You can then reel it in with either a circle motion by the Nunchuk, or with the A, B, buttons. The whole casting and reeling in part feels just fine, as everything for the most part controls well.

The game’s arcade style does make for a fun fishing experience though, as it is much more fast-paced than other fishing offerings. You will be making a catch and then trying to quickly keep moving to do the best that you can before the time runs out.
OK, geeks… turn your Wii into a media center.
February 19, 2008 on 8:13 pm | In News | No Comments“When it comes to expanding your home theater beyond gaming, the Wii has always been a bit light on functionality. The best thing it’s got going for it is the excellent Opera web browser, but web browsing with the Wii remote is still a bit clunky. Luckily, using that very same browser, you can turn your Wii into a full-fledged media center with the freeware Windows application Orb.”

WARNING: Wii can be bad for your health!
February 5, 2008 on 7:47 am | In News | No CommentsI remember when PacMan first came out. I put a little too much into a quick response and hurt my shoulder (and moved the arcade game about a foot!). It took more than a week to heal.
Wii players are learning that many games are not just virtual… they have led to some actual injuries… and there’s now a name for it: “Wii-itis”
Dr. Bill Barnes, an orthopaedic surgeon from Piedmont Sports Complex in Macon, says he’s treated at least a dozen patients since the Fall for Wii-related injuries.
“One person came in last week with a torn rotator cuff from boxing on the Wii,” said Barnes. “Where else are you gonna have the opportunity, at this level of participation, to box, play golf, play tennis, all in the same three hours.”
He says no matter your age, athletic condition or game-playing experience, you still need to take precautions due to the intense physical nature of these games.
“These things are real. I mean, it feels like you’re playing the game,” continued Barnes. “So you’re really going through the motions like you would if you were outside playing.”
But even with medical advice and websites documenting Wii injuries, Barnes says there’ll always be enthusiasts like Smith and Dalton who’ll gladly accept the injury risk, for the gaming reward.
What can you learn about a person by snooping into their Wii?
